Arrested under paragraph 175 in 1938. He was imprisoned in Neuengamme concentration camp, where he was put to work as a nurse. He was later transferred to Auschwitz for refusing to reduce the bread rations to Polish prisoners. After his liberation in 1945 he continues to be prosecuted because of his sexual orientation.
